Gaudy or functional?
Originally the mailbox post was nearly on top of my water main access so I moved it to the other side of the driveway. Too close to the driveway and didn’t let the 4x4 sit out to dry long enough - so it warped on me
Original vs new. That warpage.

Personally, I like it. Seems like a really nice solution.

You’re just making it easier for the local yahoos to hit it with a baseball bat in the middle of the night. You need to go with something like this, which is common in these parts. Looks more like a pillbox than a mailbox, but it’s not getting knocked over.
Otherwise, I like the light. Not gaudy at all.

nice - is it one of those solar LED set ups? (I’ve been looking at driveway lights like that because I don’t want to wire a bunch of stuff but would like a sensor driven light above our garage door...)

Theres one of those in my neighborhood knocked over and it's been there for at least 2.5 years if not more. The spine of it was a 3 inch 1/4 inch pipe (now sticking out of the ground) with the box laying next to it. New box is on the other side of the driveway

Good idea. Not gaudy or unpleasant at all.
If you’re after gaudy illumination, look no further than your local MB dealer:
Most likely to be found on base CLAs so that they can brag that they finally made it despite the fact that they’re driving a cheap econobox.

I like it. Put a raspberry bush in the planter box (?) to instantly become the mailman's favorite customer

I’ve often been frustrated by an inability to find a street number I’m looking for. I think this is a good idea.

If I’m 100% honest - 9/10. Love the idea, and it looks like you did a great job installing the new post . When I redo my mailbox I may steal this idea. The only issue I have with it is I think it looks weird as a mix of bare wood with the white mailbox and topper.
But I get weird about stuff like this, I like cohesion of color and design elements. My house has a brick fascade with white trim, white columns on the portico, etc. But my fence is natural
wood, and 2 different styles - the main spans are X with a single top cross bar and 2 bottom cross bars, but the gates are picket style. My mailbox is black on a natural wood post. I need to study my HOA rules in detail but I’d like to re-do my fence so at least the front part (visible to the street) is all picket and painted white to match the house trim, and I think I’m going to do a white mailbox and white post when I replace it.

I hear ya and that's solid feedback. Originally I was going to paint the post white but now that it has the flower box im in a catch. I *could* make a wooden mailbox however and tie it all together that way. I do everything as either 45 or 90* angles cause your boy isn't the best wood worker out there. Let me play around with some ideas, I have some things coming to mind.
